Wood Siding Tips:

Tip #1: It is recommended to acclimatize the siding to the moisture content of the surroundings.

Tip #2: Pre-finishing is recommended. Four side pre-finishing eliminates moisture gain or loss and keeps the product stable. Wood siding does shrink and expand with the climate.

Tip #3: Wood siding should be installed over building paper.

Tip #4: On bevel siding do not nail through overlapping pieces. This allows the wood to move without splitting.

Tip #5: Caulking of all joints is recommended to prevent moisture getting in.

Tip #6: Keep the lowest edge of siding at least 6" off the ground.

Tip #7: Install flashing at the junction of dormer walls roof surfaces and over the top of windows and doors. Horizontal breaks also require flashing.

Tip #8: Use hot dipped galvanized,aluminium or stainless steel nails with ring on spiral threaded shanks. Blunt tips reduce splitting.
